Bren School Corporate Partners Summit

May 8-9, 2008

 “Energy and Water:

Partners in a Critical Dynamic

Energy and water supply and demand are intrinsically linked. Water is needed for electrical energy production, particularly in generating hydroelectric and thermoelectric power, and energy is needed to extract water from surface and subsurface reservoirs, as well as for desalination, conveyance in surface channels, distribution to users, treatment pre- and post-use, and storing reclaimed water.

California’s energy supply is significantly dependent on water. Generating power via nuclear reactors and fossil fuel combustion requires significant amounts of water for cooling. Water is also co-extracted with oil and other fossil fuels, and may require energy for its treatment and/or disposal.  Agriculture and industry require both water and energy as inputs, and efforts to conserve water may require more energy. Thus, it is important to consider the energy-water nexus in any major planning decision, particularly in California where water and energy may become limiting factors for economic development.

The Bren School Corporate Partners Summit is free to all Corporate Partners. The Summit is a tremendous opportunity to join top executives, scientists and other environmental leaders at a dynamic round-table discussion about an important environmental and business challenge. There is also ample opportunity to interact with Bren School faculty, students, alumni, Corporate Partners, and friends of the School.

Register for this year's Summit.
