John Melack, Associate Dean, Professor – Biology, Ecology,Limnology, Remote SensingJohn Melack has earned an international reputation for his work in biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology, and remote sensing. His more than 200 publications have described research emphasizing ecological processes in lakes, rivers, wetlands, and catchments in Brazil, Africa, Australia, Japan, Central Asia, and the United States. He has served on the Science Steering Committee for the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment (LBA) in Amazonia since the project began in 1993 and has also conducted long-term research in Africa and California. He served on the National Research Council’s Committee on Geophysical and Environmental Data and has represented the limnological community on NASA’s Science Steering Committee for the Earth Observing System. He played a seminal role in the creation of the Bren School, and is the faculty advisor of the University of California Sierra Nevada Aquatic Laboratory and Valentine Reserve in Mammoth Lakes. |
